Dog Training in Lake Worth Beach

A walkable downtown, a lagoon on one side and an ocean beach on the other, and a city code that is clear about where dogs can and cannot go.

A city your dog walks through, not just around

Lake Worth Beach is a city of about 42,000 people (2020 census) between West Palm Beach and Lantana, with the Lake Worth Lagoon along its eastern edge. It took the name Lake Worth Beach in 2019. Much of daily dog life here happens on foot, on sidewalks, in public parks and around the downtown streets, which makes leash manners the skill that matters most.

The city code is specific. Dogs are welcome in public parks and the Downtown Cultural Plaza on a leash, with current vaccinations and a license tag, and the leash in parks and on public property can be no longer than six feet. Dogs are not allowed on the sand at the municipal beach, on the Municipal Pier, on playgrounds, school grounds, sports fields, the cemetery or the golf course.

Why a good recall does not change the leash law

One line in the city code is worth knowing before you train: the code says that proof a dog responds to voice commands is not a defense to running at large. In other words, a perfect off-leash recall does not make off-leash walking legal on Lake Worth Beach streets. We train off-leash reliability because it is a safety net, the door left open or the leash that slips, not as a reason to unclip downtown.

Where to walk and where to run

For leashed miles, John Prince Memorial Park near the city has a 4.5-mile walking path, and Palm Beach County allows dogs in most county parks on a leash no longer than six feet. For off-leash time, the county runs Lake Woof inside John Prince Memorial Park at 2520 Lake Worth Road, with separate areas by dog size. It closes Thursdays from noon to 3 pm for maintenance, and dogs must be leashed going in and coming out.

Programs

Most Lake Worth Beach owners start with private obedience at $650 for four lessons, which covers loose-leash walking, heel and greeting manners for busy sidewalks. If the trouble is at home, in-home lessons start at $850. For the fastest result, the two-week board and train is $2,900.

Results vary by dog. Major behavioral issues such as dog or human aggression cannot be guaranteed to be eliminated — our programs give you control and a clear plan to manage them.
