Train where the behavior lives

Most of the behavior people actually want fixed is location-specific. The dog does not bolt out of a training field — it bolts out of your front door. It does not counter-surf in a classroom. It does not lose its mind at a doorbell that is not yours.

In-home training puts the lessons exactly where the triggers are. We work the door your dog charges, the window it barks at, the kitchen it steals from, and the stretch of sidewalk where the walk falls apart.

Who in-home suits

• Households where the problem is specific to the property — door charging, fence reactivity, yard boundaries, barking at the window
• Owners with multiple dogs, where loading everyone into a car for a lesson is its own ordeal
• People with mobility, schedule or childcare constraints that make travelling to lessons unrealistic
• Dogs that are genuinely worse in the car than out of it

Who it does not suit

If the core issue is that your dog cannot cope outside the house, in-home lessons alone are the wrong tool — the whole point is exposure to the real world. And serious aggression or bite cases belong on the board and train track, after an evaluation. We will say so rather than sell you the more convenient option.

Results vary by dog. Major behavioral issues such as dog or human aggression cannot be guaranteed to be eliminated — our programs give you control and a clear plan to manage them.

What a typical in-home lesson looks like

The first session is mostly diagnostic. We want to see the problem happen rather than hear it described, because owners are usually accurate about what the dog does and understandably less accurate about what precedes it. Where you stand, what you say, how long you wait and what the dog gets out of the behavior all turn out to matter.

From there each lesson introduces commands, you practise them in the room where you will actually use them, and you finish with homework. By the fourth lesson the goal is that the behavior is under control in the place it was worst.

Set the house up so training is easier

• Give the dog a defined place — a bed or mat that means "settle here". A dog with nowhere to be will default to the door or the window.
• Remove the vantage point if barking is the issue. A dog that cannot see the trigger rehearses the behavior far less.
• Agree the rules across the household. A dog allowed on the sofa by one person and not another has learned the rule is "it depends who is watching".
• Manage the doorway while training is in progress — a baby gate for a fortnight prevents weeks of rehearsed door-charging.

Multi-dog households

Two or three dogs in one home is common here and it changes the work. Dogs feed off each other's arousal, so a doorbell that produces one barking dog will produce three, louder and faster. We usually build the behavior with each dog separately before asking for it together — trying to train them as a group from the start tends to mean nobody learns anything.
