About Off Leash K9 Training West Palm Beach
What we do, how we do it, and the things we will tell you we cannot promise.
Serving Palm Beach County since 2014
We train dogs across West Palm Beach and the communities north and west of it — from the barrier island to the groves. Board and train, private obedience, in-home lessons, puppy programs, reactivity and aggression work, off-leash reliability and therapy dog preparation.
Our trainers are professionals who do this full time. We deliberately do not put individual trainer profiles on this site; you will be matched with the trainer whose experience fits your dog, and you will meet them at the assessment.
How we train
Markers, praise and low-level e-collar communication, used together. The marker tells the dog the exact instant it was right. The reward makes that worth repeating. The e-collar provides a consistent signal that still reaches a dog at distance, where a voice does not.
The e-collars we use are made specifically for Off Leash K9 Training locations and are not shock collars. We will let you feel one on your own hand before we put it on your dog, and if you are not comfortable with it, there are programs we can run without it. We have written about this openly, including the criticisms we think are fair, on our e-collar page.
What we will not tell you
We will not tell you that aggression can be cured. We will not quote you a price on the phone for a dog we have not assessed. We will not take a bite case without evaluating it first, and sometimes that evaluation ends with us recommending a veterinary behaviorist instead of a training package.
We also publish every price on this website, because being asked to fill in a form to find out what something costs is irritating and we would rather not do that to you.
Results vary by dog. Major behavioral issues such as dog or human aggression cannot be guaranteed to be eliminated — our programs give you control and a clear plan to manage them.
About the method
Off Leash K9 Training was founded in 2010 by Nick White, a United States Marine Corps veteran and former United States Secret Service agent. White served in Fallujah during Operation Phantom Fury, where his unit relied on trained dogs to detect explosives and contraband, and later carried out Secret Service protective details including Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama and Vice President Dick Cheney.
He left the Secret Service in 2010 to open Off Leash K9 Training in Woodbridge, Virginia, and is the author of Raising the Perfect Dog: Secrets of Law Enforcement K9 Trainers (2011). He has since appeared as the expert trainer on A&E's America's Top Dog, and served on the board of the Prince William County Humane Society, helping establish its Warrior Buddies programme pairing shelter dogs with returning veterans free of charge.
The obedience curriculum used at Off Leash K9 Training, West Palm Beach is the one he built.
